Going Deeper:
A guided therapeutic book club to reflect and connect
Welcome to Going Deeper: The Therapeutic Book Club. This is a four-week guided book club for fellow grievers and seeker to gather and dive more deeply into the text of a selected author. Together we'll explore the themes and insights around personal growth, grief and life transition, and therapeutic concepts. Each week we will read a few chapters (about 50 pages a week) for discussion. Our groups will begin with a short guided meditation, followed by several prompts distilled from the reading to encourage open discussion.
Each meeting is an opportunity to share insights and reflect on how these concepts resonate in our lives. I will strive to help you apply the wisdom found in the book to your daily life. Through our sessions, I'll offer guidance for practices that can help you cultivate greater awareness, compassion, and inner peace.
These gatherings will be a thoughtful and respectful container of discourse where everyone can feels safe to share their thoughts and feelings. By reflecting together, we can reach the depths of our own inner revelations. Whether we agree or disagree with each other, we can learn from one another perceptive and grow together.

Sometimes you slip through the cracks: unforeseen circumstances like an abrupt illness, the death of a loved one, a break up, or a job loss can derail a life. These periods of dislocation can be lonely and unexpected. For May, her husband fell ill, her son stopped attending school, and her own medical issues led her to leave a demanding job. Wintering explores how she not only endured this painful time, but embraced the singular opportunities it offered.
A moving personal narrative shot through with lessons from literature, mythology, and the natural world, May's story offers instruction on the transformative power of rest and retreat. Illumination emerges from many sources: solstice celebrations and dormice hibernation, C.S. Lewis and Sylvia Plath, swimming in icy waters and sailing arctic seas.
Ultimately Wintering invites us to change how we relate to our own fallow times. May models an active acceptance of sadness and finds nourishment in deep retreat, joy in the hushed beauty of winter, and encouragement in understanding life as cyclical, not linear. A secular mystic, May forms a guiding philosophy for transforming the hardships that arise before the ushering in of a new season.
